What Does It Mean to "Let Jesus Take The Wheel"?

To let Jesus take the wheel means to surrender control of our lives to Him and trust in His guidance.

It means acknowledging that we don't have all the answers and that we need God's help to navigate the challenges of life.

In the song "Jesus Take The Wheel," Carrie Underwood sings about a moment when she was driving and lost control of her car, crying out to Jesus to take over.

While this may be a dramatic example, the idea of letting Jesus take control of our lives is just as relevant in our everyday experiences.

The Bible teaches us that we were not meant to navigate life on our own.

In Proverbs 3:5-6, we're instructed to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."

When we let Jesus take the wheel, we're acknowledging that He knows the way better than we do and that His plans for our lives are good. We can trust Him to lead us on the right path.

Why we should let Jesus take the wheel?

Letting Jesus take the wheel brings many benefits to our lives.

Firstly, it brings peace to our hearts. Jesus says in John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

When we trust in Jesus and surrender control to Him, we can experience a sense of peace that transcends our circumstances.

Secondly, letting Jesus take the wheel brings joy to our lives.

John 15:11, "I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete."

When we allow Jesus to guide us, we can experience the joy that comes from following Him and living according to His plan for our lives.

Thirdly, letting Jesus take the wheel gives us a sense of purpose.

In Jeremiah 29:11, God says, "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

When we surrender control to Jesus, we can trust that He has a plan and purpose for our lives, and that He will guide us towards it.

The Challenges we may face when well allow Jesus Take The Wheel

While letting Jesus take the wheel brings many benefits, it's not always easy to do. Sometimes we struggle with fear, doubt, and uncertainty. We may wonder if God really knows what's best for us, or if He'll really come through for us in difficult times.

However, the Bible assures us that we can trust God's character and His promises.

Romans 8:28, says "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose."

Even when we don't understand why certain things happen in our lives, we can trust that God is working behind the scenes for our good.

Another challenge of letting Jesus take the wheel is the temptation to take control back

We may feel like we know what's best for our lives, or we may want to hold on to a sense of control.

However, when we try to take control back from Jesus, we're essentially saying that we don't trust Him. We're saying that we think we can do a better job than He can, which is not only prideful but also untrue.

Proverbs 16:9: "In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps."

We may think we know where we're going, but ultimately, it's God who establishes our steps and guides us on our journey.

Overcoming these challenges requires us to cultivate a deep trust in Jesus.

  • We need to spend time in prayer and in the Word of God, building a relationship with Him and learning to discern His voice.
  • We also need to surround ourselves with other believers who can encourage us and hold us accountable.
  • When we face doubts or fears, we can lean on our brothers and sisters in Christ and remind ourselves of God's promises.

Biblical Examples of people that let God take the Wheel

1. Abraham Allow God to take the wheel

Abraham is a great example of someone who let God take the wheel in his life.

In Genesis 12, God called Abraham to leave his homeland and go to a place that He would show him. Abraham could have resisted this call, but instead, he trusted in God's plan and obeyed.

Despite not knowing where he was going, Abraham trusted that God had a purpose for his life and was faithful to follow where God led him. Abraham allow God to drive him, and he was never lost. I learned from Abraham an important lesson, which is that:

Let Him lead thee blindfold onward, for the children the father (God) leads ask not where they go. They simply put total trust in God

2. The Disciples Run to Jesus

In the Gospel according to  Mark, Jesus was sleeping in a boat while a storm rages around Him.

The disciples are afraid and think they are going to die, so Peter runs to Jesus where he was sleeping, wake Jesus up, and say to Him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" (Mark 4:38).

This is yet another example of letting Jesus take the wheel; because the disciples recognized that they were powerless to control the storm themselves. They knew that they needed Jesus to save them, so they turned to Him in their time of need.

In response to their cries for help, Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and the waves, saying, "Quiet! Be still!" And the storm immediately subsided. Then Jesus turned to the disciples and said, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" (Mark 4:39-40).

As we seek to let Jesus take the wheel in our own lives, we can look to these examples and find hope and inspiration.

We can trust in God's plan for our lives, even when we don't understand it. And we can have faith that Jesus is always with us, even in the midst of life's storms.

Conclusion

Letting Jesus take the wheel is not always easy, but it is essential if we want to live a life that is pleasing to God.

When we surrender control to Him, we experience peace, joy, and purpose. We can trust that He knows the way better than we do and that He is working all things for our good.

So I encourage you today to let go of the wheel and let Jesus guide you on your journey. Trust in Him, and He will make your paths straight.
