THE GOODNESS OF GOD: A spur for the Goodness in men

Going back through the memory lane; the genesis account of the Bible discloses that God made everything good.

Genesis 1:31 And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.

Good here means there is no occasion for anything called evil in the world. Everything was Good; is an encompassing statement which shows that God has infused in everything and in everyman a nature that cannot do anything else other than good. Simply, the act of goodness was man's heritage by birth.

However, the act of goodness which was in man by nature was soon diluted, as a result of the sin of disobedience, and man became acquainted with evil; having the knowledge of good and of evil.

Having the knowledge of good and evil; he lost his fellowship with God, for he has become a sinner.

Habbakuk 1:13 Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity Psalm 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

Nevertheless, herein is the gracious goodness of God made available for erring men, in that the lost fellowship was restored and He made men His sons, saints and heirs of the throne of Grace through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

TALKING ABOUT THE GOODNESS OF GOD
The goodness of God is that which disposes Him to be kind, cordial, benevolent, and full of good will toward men. He is tenderhearted and of quick sympathy and His unfailing attitude toward all moral beings is open, frank, and friendly. By His nature He is inclined to bestow blessedness and He takes holy pleasure in the happiness of His people.

That God is good is taught or implied on every page of the Bible and must be received as an article of faith as impregnable as the throne of God. It is a foundation stone for all sound thought about God and is necessary to moral sanity.

To allow that God could be other than good is to deny the validity of all thought and end ill the negation of every moral judgment. If God is not good, then there can be no distinction between kindness and cruelty, and heaven can be hell and hell, heaven. The goodness of God is the drive behind all the blessings He daily bestows upon us. God created us because He felt good in His heart and He redeemed us for the same reason. A. W. TOZER

THE GOODNESS OR GOD: The drive behind all the blessings we are receiving from Him and most importantly our Redemption.

Julian of Norwich, who lived six hundred years ago, saw clearly that the ground of all blessedness is the goodness of God. Chapter six of her incredibly beautiful and perceptive little classic, Revelations of Divine Love, begins; This showing was made to learn our souls to cleave wisely to the goodness of God.

Then she lists some of the mighty deeds God has wrought in our behalf, and after each one she adds of His goodness.

She saw that all our religious activities and every means of grace, however right and useful they may be, are nothing until we understand that the unmerited, spontaneous goodness of God is back of all arid underneath all His acts; And as a result; this is a call unto all that have been a beneficiary of the abundant goodness of God towards men.

Moreover, because God has been so good towards mankind, most especially, at that very time when He gave up His only begotten son to be the propitiation for ours sins and iniquities and to wash us clean from all unrighteousness, thereby restoring the relationship that once was lost in the garden, and accepting us all in the beloved, through the seal of His Holy Spirit that he has send unto us makes it a spur (an inspiration or motivating factor) for us all, to replicate this acts of Goodness to people around us.

LET US NOT FORGET TO DO GOOD TO THOSE WE MEET ON OUR WAY UP, FOR WE MAY MEET THEM ON OUR WAY DOWN.
The story below was forwarded to me by a friend on Whatsapp – it is a beautiful implementation of the act of goodness. I think you should read it.

In England in 1920 there was a graduation ceremony for a batch of new doctors. It was attended by the British Prime Minister of that time. During the ceremony, the head doctor who was in charge of that batch, gave the necessary advice to the new graduates. He told them the following incident which happened with him sometimes back: "It was after midnight, and I heard a knock on my door. It was an old lady, and she said to me: 'O my doctor, my child is sick and in a very serious condition, so please do something to save him. I rushed out to follow her to her house without worrying what will happen. Because it was a stormy night, and very cold. The rain was pouring down very heavily. I did not fear for my life. Her house was on the outskirts of London, and after a difficult journey, we reached her house.

She lived in a small room with her son. When I entered the room, I saw her son at the corner of this room groaning and deeply in pain. After I did my duty towards the sick child, the mother gave me a small bag with money. I refused to take this bag and I told her gently that I can't accept that payment, because I felt sorry for their situation. Then I promised her that I will take care of her child until he gets better." The head doctor continued in his speech by saying: "This is the true profession of medicine, and being a doctor is the closest profession to mercy and one of the closest to God" As soon as the head doctor finished his speech, the Prime Minister jumped out of his seat and headed to the podium. "Permit me Sir, to kiss your hand. For twenty years now and I am looking for you. I am the child you mentioned in your story just now. Oh, my mother will be happy now and she will rest in peace. Her only wish was for me to find you and to reward you, for that goodness you did for us at the time we were living in poverty."

That poor child who became the Prime Minister of England was: "Lloyd George"

WHEN YOU DO GOOD TO OTHERS, YOU ARE SIMPLY CASTING YOUR BREAD UPON THE WATERS, AND AFTER MANY DAYS IT WILL COME BACK TO YOU, NOT ITSELF ALONE, BUT IN ABUNDANCE. Ecclesiastics 11:1

This is therefore a call unto us to do good unto others wherever we find ourselves. Most especially, seeing that we have the life of God (i.e. the new life in the Spirit), this new life that we received is a life that longs to do good and make difference. And that's just the best we can do at every point in time.

Take for instance Jesus Christ: The scripture says God anointed Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit and with Power, and He went about doing good,…  Acts 10:38

Meanwhile as a Christian, the greatest good you can ever do to anyone is to preach the Gracious Goodness of God in the person of Jesus Christ. Snatch a soul from the cohort of Hell and from the wrath to come.

DOING GOOD; MAKING DIFFERENCE
